Faculty & Staff Biographies
Nicole Miller, Administrator
Nicole Miller holds a degree in Theology with a concentration in Religious Education from Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio. She has been a youth minister for over ten years and involved in various other ministries, including music, since high school. Nicole oversees our Montessori-based religious education program known as Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. She prepared for Level I of this program (preschool-1st grade) for two years, and has been nationally trained. She is now preparing for Level II of the program, which will be the religious education program for grades two through six in the 2016-2017 school year. She is passionate about sharing the Good News and great love of Jesus with our students and looks forward to all the growth and joy that is sure to come this year in God's presence. Nicole and her husband have one daughter, Grace, who is in first grade at Holy Name School this year. They love living in this beautiful place and enjoy being out on the water with their dog, Grady, as much as possible.
Diana Coffin, Preschool
Diana Coffin founded the preschool program at Holy Names in 1997 and has been with us for eighteen years! She has twenty-five years of classroom experience. She holds a certificate in Early Childhood Education from the University of Alaska. Miss Diana is the lead teacher for both the Bumblebee (3-4 year olds) and Ladybug (4-5 year olds) Classes. She encourages students to be passionate about learning; to become peacemakers and creative thinkers.
Maureen Paul, Preschool Teaching Assistant
Maureen Paul holds a B.S. Degree in Child Development and has taught grades from preschool through high school. She has experience in many diverse teaching skills with a great interest in helping students in their academic knowledge, as well as their personal and social life skills. She is fluent in sign language and enjoys teaching her students to sign as an extra interest in the classroom. Maureen and her husband, Jim, and her family have been active members of the Holy Name Parish for many years. She returns to Holy Name School for her second year.
Dora Montgomery, Preschool Teaching Assistant
Dora Montgomery holds a Master of Science in Education and Counseling, as well as certification in Teaching Strategies GOLD Interrater Reliability Certification (birth through age 2, including children with disabilities). Primarily, she has worked with children ages 2-5, though she has substituted in grades K-6. She loves teaching and is excited to be teaching children at Holy Name Catholic School. She has been happily married for the past 35 years and is blessed to have three children and five grandchildren. The beach is her favorite place to be and she loves to travel, especially to tropical places like Key West, Florida.
Ann Jackson, Kindergarten
Ann Jackson is returning to Holy Name this year as our kindergarten teacher! Miss Ann has worked in our preschool program for seven years, formerly leading the Bumblebee (3-year olds) class. She has a degree in early childhood education from Creighton University. Her husband, Joel is an alumnus of Holy Name School, as are her three children, Leo, Grace and Sam. Miss Ann is loved by all her students for her fun, engaging songs and fabulous nature projects.
Barbara Strote, 1st/2nd Grades
Barbara Strote holds a B.A. in Elementary Education with a special interest in Special Education. She completed her M.A. in Education from Concordia University and has several years of teaching experience in elementary education. Mrs. Strote is returning to Holy Name School for her second year. She brings a high level of technology into the classroom and incorporates it into her teaching style. She has a special interest in teaching areas of both art and writing skills to her classroom students. Barb and her husband wanted to come back to live in S.E. Alaska and enjoy living here close to her sister. She loves living in Ketchikan, loves the weather; and LOVES Holy Name and the staff and students here. She considers her work here a calling and not just a career!
Rebecca Mike, 3rd/4th Grades
Erika Cummings, 5th/6th Grades
Erika Cummings is a certified teacher in the states of Alaska and California. She holds a B.F.A. in Education K-12 from Boise State University and she earned an Elementary Education Graduation Certificate from California State University, Long Beach. Mrs. Cummings has taught grades kindergarten through sixth and has fifteen years teaching experience. She did her student teaching in 1997 and began teaching in 1999. Her experience in differentiated instruction, intervention programming, and interactive instruction serves her students well. Mrs. Cummings is married with two children and two dogs. She loves to read and learn, and enjoys traveling, fishing and art.
