SENTENCES:
1. King Harry hurried his plan to defend the castle from a fierce siege.
2. Neither worker is receiving a piece of the profit.
   Please DO NOT do any of the choices below just yet. We are going to do them in a certain order.
SPELLING SENTENCES DIRECTIONS:
1. You MAY type or handwrite your sentences (size 12 only if you type and it must be in a plain font)
2. Type or write your heading: name, date, Spelling, Sentences
3. Skip a line.
4. Number your sentences AND underline the spelling words.
5. DOUBLE SPACE BETWEEN SENTENCES.
6. IMPORTANT! YOUR SENTENCES MUST BE 5TH GRADE LEVEL SENTENCES & MUST HAVE AT LEAST 8 WORDS IN EACH SENTENCE. To make sentences longer add descriptive words (instead of "the car" write "the zippy lemon yellow Volkswagon," be specific, or use the spelling word in a quotation. Make your sentences longer by having fun with them and by being creative with them! Just make sure they MAKE SENSE.
7. Reread every word in your sentence to make sure it's there, and check for puctuation, capitalization, and proper grammar.

SPELLING CHOICES - You must complete 1 spelling activity each week. Choose from the list of activities below. You must do each one once BEFORE you can repeat any activity. This activity is due every Thursday.

Syllabication – Divide every spelling word into its syllables using the spelling glossary or the dictionary. (Use ink & cursive.)

  1. Word Search – Make a word search with your spelling words on graph paper you get from your teacher. Be sure to explain in what directions the words go and have a key of correct answers made. (Pen or pencil and print either all capitals OR all lowercase letters)
  2. Creative Story – Write a creative story using all of your spelling words. Underline each word as it appears in the story. (Use ink. & cursive.)
  3. Alphabetical Order – Write your words in alphabetical order skipping lines. (Use ink and cursive)
  4. Word Scramble – Mix up the letters of your words. Trade with a friend and solve each other’s word scramble. Be sure to make an answer key. (Use ink.)
  5. Crossword Puzzle - Make a crossword puzzle with graph paper. Write clues for ACROSS and DOWN. Be sure to make an answer key. (Pen or pencil and print)
  6. Parts of Speech – Group all your words according to parts of speech. (Use ink & cursive.)
  7. Matching – Make a matching activity that matches the spelling word with its definition. Words go on the left side and definitions go on the right side. Trade and do with a friend. Be sure to make an answer key.
  8. Synonyms/Antonyms – Write 1-2 synonyms & 1-2 antonyms for each spelling word. Be sure to label which are synonyms & which are antonyms.
 K. Write Words – Write each spelling word and the bonus words FIVE times each NEATLY in cursive in ink. Say the letters as you write them. You may use the back of your paper. Skip lines between words.
